64 million votes decided America’s president.  Tonight, 97.5 million votes decided America’s Idol.  Quite nearly 52% more people have engaged their television today than have engaged their national government in 2004.  I’m sure there are some mathematics that makes this less depressing, but I’m not sure if it would help that I heard it.  Even if one were to assume every last person tonight voted twice, the number remains a full three quarters of the total voter participation in 2008.

America is twice as likely to choose a pop singer than a president.    Just the words boggle my mind.

  • Interesting post. I have stumbled this for my friends. Hope others find it as interesting as I did.

I'll pour out a 40 today, in memory of all the bikes that have fallen victim to drive throughs, parking garages, low bridges and a cruel, uncaring world.

I will mourn you, until I join you.
